we made it! intern year is... done.

DONE.

DONE!!!

farewell, sleepless nights (at least until august).  it's been quite a ride.

bonus shot: could my grandma be any cuter trying to swallow her humongous multivitamin?

oh long neglected xanga... talking to my dad in china today made me realize how long it's been since i've updated this. so to my faithful readers (who are, perhaps, now down to one - love you daddy!), here's a nice long snapshot of the last 6 months.  mostly this goes out to great friends, old and new, and as a tribute to how beautiful san francisco really is.
here's my city! a view from twin peaks right near where i live:

always happy to have a visit from matt.  the number of times he's made it back from minnesota is a miracle.  and check it out - sun in san francisco!

college reunions are always a blast.  looks like time well-spent with chris and wei, eh?

i made it to a few baseball games in the fall. the first picture is when our generous program director offered us his tickets, perhaps the best seats i've ever sat in, in any stadium.  please contrast with the next photo, which is the view from the tickets we bought ourselves.  something to aspire to, i guess?

on the drive home from one of the hospitals i work at, i stopped off at the beach.  plus a photo of the palace of fine arts, which is right next to the v.a.  blessed to work here, i tell you.

is it time for med school reunions already?  hanging out with charles and byron, and the view from land's end:

we've had lots of luck with cloudless skies on blue angels days.  here are those crazy stuntsters. and oh how i miss my old roommie, janet!

i got the chance to go sailing with tam and her friends on a beautiful day in the bay:

we threw our first (and sadly, only) party of the year at our apartment.  here are some pictures of my lovely co-interns, and of course a roommate photo:

we then proceeded to have a thanksgiving dinner at our place since most of us couldn't go home for the holidays.  when strapped for time, boston market to the rescue! here is our delicious (pre-cooked) turkey:

for some reason, this picture cracks me up.  we were trying to take a picture in a photo booth without paying, using our digital camera.  clearly there's a reason you pay money for the wide-angle lens:

and last but not least, christmas dinner with the family:

well, this entry is ridiculously long already, so i think i'll have to wait on part deux to cover the couple months since christmas.  hey, pretty cool how i can almost make it look like i have a life when i put all the events of four months together in one entry, huh?  i do miss you out there - please let me know how you're doing too.

merry christmas folks.

...and to all a good night - thinking of you this season.

and before you know it, two months of internship have passed by.  as expected it's been full of peaks and valleys - today i was reminded of something that i heard in one of rob bell's videos, and it was great to re-visit:
"notice how many places in the accounts of jesus' life he gets frustrated with his disciples.  because they are incapable? no, because of how capable they are.  he sees what they could be and could do, and when they fall short, it provokes him to no end.  it isn't their failure that's the problem; it's their greatness.  they don't realize what they are capable of....
i have been told that i need to believe in jesus.  which is a good thing.  but what i am learning is that jesus believes in me.
i have been told that i need to have faith in god.  which is a good thing.  but what i am learning is that god has faith in me."
it's comforting, and humbling, that despite my inadequacies in seeking him in these two months, he still has faith in me.

with that, snapshots of the past couple months:
my chia pet courtesy of tam - i have to admit he looks much worse now than he did in this photo:

daddy turns 60! and as young and active as ever:

intern year month one - highlighted by our team leader introducing us to the wonder of the v.a. tray. can you believe this meal is 100% free?  (many bystanders kindly pointed out the resemblance of our meatloaf to a turd).

jackie turns 28! a rare chance to spend time out of our scrubs:

vacation one - my visit to new jersey and new york, kindly hosted by the bahadur/langs.  we visited the natural history museum - right where i belong, in the hall of asian mammals :)

this trip i saw again why people get mesmerized by new york - it's really an amazing place.  not to mention getting to spend time with wonderful people from all stages of life.

and the latest adventure was a post-call trek to tina and joe's gorgeous wedding.  congrats you two! unfortunately almost the only photo i got from the trip was documentation of how i'm (at last!) in the pinkberry know:

here's to knowing how much faith god has in you, too.  con abrazos.

what a whirlwind... during orientation this week they told us to have a happy place that we could visualize in our mind when things got rough.  haven't really needed it yet, but costa rica is definitely a happy place for me - monkeys swinging through the trees, late nights spent playing cards and circling mosquito bites, and constant reminders of the kindness of people, old friends and strangers alike.  te amo, costa rica.
